Student Handbook KPES Code of Conduct Respect Yourself as a Learner Respect Others Respect Your Body and Spirit Our School Values A Positive Approach to Learning Welcome to our learning community! We believe that clear, positive values help everyone succeed and feel supported. Here are the principles that guide our wonderful days together: 1. Growth Mindset and Effort We believe in your potential! We encourage you to always try your best on every assignment and challenge. Effort and dedication are the true keys to learning and growth. When you approach your work with determination, you can feel proud of the knowledge and skills you build! If you hit a tricky spot, remember that we’re here to support you and help you find a path forward. 2. Starting Our Day Strong Our exciting learning adventure starts bright and early at 8:00 a.m.! Being on time is a fantastic way to prepare your mind, catch up with friends, and ensure you don’t miss any fun or important lessons. It’s also a wonderful way to show respect for your classmates and teachers who are ready to start the day together. Let’s make starting on time a positive habit! 3. Building a Kind Community Let’s make our classroom a welcoming and safe place for everyone. We commit to treating each other with kindness and respect every single day, valuing everyone’s feelings, ideas, and differences. Using kind words and thoughtful actions helps our whole community thrive! 4. Safe and Active Fun Recess is our time to recharge and be active! We remember to play safely so everyone can enjoy their time outdoors. We use our energy for active, creative games that ensure all friends are safe, happy, and included. 5. Caring for Our Shared Space Our school resources are here for everyone to use and enjoy. We show care for our books, equipment, facilities, and supplies so they can last a long time for all students. By being great caretakers of our shared space, we help keep our learning environment beautiful and functional! School-Wide Values: Safety, Respect, and Fun These values help us all stay safe and enjoy our time when we are outside the classroom or during indoor recess. Safe Play and Movement Morning Arrival: When you arrive in the morning, let’s head straight to the playground safe zone! We do this to stay safe from car traffic in the drop-off area. Please focus your play within the boundary (away from the bike racks and stairs) to keep everyone secure. Mindful Movement: When moving through the school hallways, we use walking feet and quiet voices. This shows courtesy and respect to our friends and teachers who are working or learning. Positive Talk: We choose to use kind, appropriate, and respectful language at all times. Our words are powerful tools for building each other up! Play Areas: We’re excited that all K–5 students get to enjoy the playground structure, swings, “sandbox,” and fields! Remember that we keep our school looking great by playing in the designated areas and staying off the front lawn. Equipment and Supervision: Our awesome Sports Leaders are there to bring out and manage the play equipment. To ensure everyone is safe and supervised, we always stay within the designated play areas where we can easily see a duty teacher. Indoor Recess Values On indoor days, you have the power of choice! Pick the gym for active fun or your classroom for quieter activities. Choice is Final: Once you have chosen your activity space (classroom or gym), please settle in and enjoy the activity in that space for the whole recess period. Tech for Learning: If you choose to use the computers, please select educational games that inspire learning and creativity. Let’s keep technology focused on positive, engaging growth!
